Cocalito
Lodge is
situated in Drake Bay, on Costa Rica's spectacular Osa Peninsula where
a vast tract of the virgin jungle greets the lazy surf of the pacific
ocean. Accessible only by air or by boat, the entire peninsula preserves
a deep history of gold, pirates, and an ancient native culture. The area's
rainforests represents, "the most biologically intense place on earth",
according to National Geographic. This wildlife refuge protects endangered
species such as the jaguar, crocodile, tapir, golden frog, harpy eagle,
and has one of the worlds largest populations of the scarlet macaw. Cocalito's
main lodge and cabins are situated on the best swimming beach in the area,
and all enjoy a dramatic vista of the sandy beaches, adorned with shady,
wild almond trees and coconut palm.
Our
botanical gardens offer a carefully selected variety of flowers, fruits,
and nuts, to tempt the appetites of our jungle friends. Majestic scarlet
macaws, toucans, sloths, parakeets, humming birds, and mischievous white
faced monkeys are among those frequently visiting. From the beach you
can snorkel among the volcanic rock heads, where colorful fish play in
the coral branches, or, you can soak in the warmth of a tidal pool. Perhaps
you may just feel like choosing a book from our library and enjoy a cool,
fruit cocktail in one of our shady hammock locations. Not to be missed
are one or two of our many excursions to experience the enchantment of
the peninsula and nearby islands. When you have played up an appetite,
your palate will be tempted by our authentic local and international cuisine.
Our restaurant, open from 5:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m. serves fresh, organic produce
prepared with seafood's and pastas, barbecued over red embers, or grilled
with fresh herbs from our gardens. If you have any dietary requirements
please let us know. Cocktails, beer, wine, snacks and soft drinks are
also available. Dine on one of the terraces by moonlight and torches,
to the soothing rhythm of the surf and the exotic aroma of the jungle.
Our
rustic cabins are finished with natural hardwoods and crafts. Each one
features a private bath and spacious sleeping area. There are lights in
the cabins. The cabinas are cleaned daily and fresh towels are provided.
Pure water is available from the kitchen for drinking. Laundry service
is available, as is a secure safe for your valuables. Luggage storage
is also available.
